First of May

May Day and, though I don’t have a lot of flowers (yet), in the northern agrarian calendar we are at Beltane, or halfway through the cycle to Summer Solstice. Plants respond to length of daylight hours as well as temperature.

The food forest is coming on well: Milagro cornfield and Milagro pepper patch in the #cornnotlawns front yards are doing well.

Pomegranate hedge is showing signs of leafing out, recovering from winter dormancy, though it’s still a few more years before we can expect fruit.

In the Back Forty, garlic, cabbage, beets, kale, beans, blue potatoes, purple Japanese sweet potatoes are all flourishing.

It’s a watering day. May Day greetings to you wherever you are in the world.
