Seems I maligned the small Vicia faba (aka broad beans or fava bean) patch.
In spite of struggling with (early season and late season) snow storms and a couple of harder frosts there was a reasonable harvest April 25th.
About the same again is still swelling in robust pods for later harvest.
This little bowl steamed and drizzled with olive oil and a dash of tamari, will be on the menu for brunch of the day.
Seed was La Mesilla from Native Seed Search seedbank collection.
Sown in late September these survived several snow storms. The other variety from another seed company, planted at similar time did not make it through winter Currently the company is sold out of La Mesilla. Hopefully their supply in the seed bank fills up again later in the season.
