Wanting to spend some time outside in the winter-thin, afternoon sun, I cleaned out years of accumulated trash from the mesquite, yucca, opuntia and rabbitbrush grove on the southwestern sidewalk.
This little piece of indigenous wilderness is not barefoot territory - goatsheads (aka devil thorns) rule the understory.
