Almost black sweet peppers are ripening.

The variety - a hybrid I am sure- is called Purple Bell. This plant was an impulse purchase spotted in the local big box store’s array of Bonnie Plants veggie starts in early spring.

It spoke to my pursuit of black fruit, flowers and vegetables.
I might have picked this one a tad early in my impatience to savor it, but I’m seeing beautiful colored salads and veggie sticks for summer hummus or bean dips. I have read that purple is just a stage em route to red for these bell peppers but I’m probably not going to be able to leave the fruit on the plant long enough to verify.

There are a lot of swelling fruits at the moment.
