Desolation Row

In the heart of the Historic Hotsprings District: this abandonment caught my eye.

I don’t know the history of this apartment complex, or how it acquired that name, or why it has descended into such dereliction.

I do know that, while NM is not Cherokee people’s ancestral territory, some members of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma migrated to New Mexico in the dust bowl 1930s. Which was also the period when the town of Hotsprings, New Mexico incorporated In 1916, became the county seat. A lot of community infrastructure development dates from the 1930s and 1940s.

Are the two related? I don’t know.
