Datura wrightii (sacred datura) perfumes the air at my launch site on Lake Caballo this morning.
Solanum elaeagnifolium (Silverleaf nightshade) are also currently flowering.
It is cloudless and already warm (71 F or 22 C) before sunrise at the lake today.
Though swallows swoop and dive in great arcs overhead, feasting on mosquitoes and gnats, some of the pesky bloodsuckers still manage to land a few bites on me. It’s the tithe I pay for mornings like this.
Irrigation drawdown is now in full force. The lake level is dropping daily, giving me a longer portage over rocks at this particular launch site which, nevertheless, remains an enduring favorite.
